Psychological Therapy
Therapy offers a space to explore what’s been going on, especially when things start to feel overwhelming, confusing, or hard to change.
Many people seek support when they notice the same patterns showing up in their lives again and again, when their reactions feel stronger than they expect, or when they’re going through a period of change that feels difficult to manage. Often, there’s a sense of being stuck without a clear way forward.
Veronica West is a registered psychologist (BPsychSc(Hons), MPH, MPsych) based on the Sunshine Coast, working with adults and adolescents in person in Maroochydore and online across Australia via secure telehealth. She offers a calm, practical and collaborative approach, helping people build a clearer understanding of their experiences and find ways forward that feel manageable and sustainable. In-person sessions start in November 2026, and telehealth is available from wherever you are in Australia.

In-Person and Telehealth Therapy
From november 2026, Veronica sees clients in person in Maroochydore, with parking on site. Sessions are also available online via telehealth, so you can access psychological support from anywhere in Australia. If you’re weighing up the two formats, online vs in-person therapy covers the differences.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a GP referral to see a psychologist?
You don’t need a referral to book an appointment. However, to access a Medicare rebate, you’ll need a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP. This is a separate appointment with your GP and can be arranged before or after you make contact. You’re welcome to book without a plan in place.
How many therapy sessions will I need?
This varies depending on what you’re working through and what you find helpful. Some people find a small number of focused sessions sufficient for a specific concern. Others prefer to work over a longer period on more complex or longstanding patterns. There’s no fixed number, and this is something you can discuss openly from the outset.
Do you offer bulk billing?
No. The session fee is $230. Clients with a valid Mental Health Treatment Plan may claim a Medicare rebate of $101.55, which brings the out-of-pocket cost to approximately $128 per rebated session. You can find more detail on the fees and funding page. For a fuller breakdown of what seeing a psychologist costs across Australia, see how much it costs to see a psychologist. If your what you are dealing with is related to a work injury, sessions may also be funded through workers’ compensation (WorkCover Queensland and SIRA in New South Wales).
What happens in the first session?
The first session is an opportunity to talk about what has brought you to therapy, what you’re hoping to get from the process, and any questions you’ve about how therapy works. It’s also a chance to get a sense of whether this feels like the right fit before committing to further sessions.
If you’re in crisis or need immediate support, please contact Lifeline on 13 11 14 or call emergency services on 000.
