Veronica is a passionate, solution-focused psychologist with experience working with individuals across the lifespan and with a wide range of presenting barriers.
Veronica has worked primarily in the regional areas of Australia and has worked with some significantly disadvantaged client groups including individuals experiencing unemployment, long-term disability, substance and alcohol use and engagement with the criminal justice system.
Therapy Modalities Offered
ACT
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on helping the individual to behave more consistently with their own values and to apply mindfulness and acceptance skills to their responses to uncontrollable experiences. The therapy is less focused on eliminating unwanted thoughts, emotions and sensations and more concerned with cultivating psychological flexibility.
CBT
Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is based on the concept that your thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are interconnected, and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a vicious cycle. CBT aims to help you deal with overwhelming problems in a more positive way by breaking them down into smaller parts and teaching you strategies to manage symptoms.
DBT
Dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based psychotherapy that began with efforts to treat personality disorders, ADHD, and interpersonal conflicts. DBT combines standard cognitive-behavioural techniques for emotion regulation and reality-testing with concepts of distress tolerance, acceptance, and mindful awareness largely derived from contemplative meditative practice.
EMDR
EMDR therapy is a phased, focused approach to treating trauma and other symptoms by reconnecting the traumatized person in a safe and supported way to the images, thoughts, emotions, and body sensations associated with the trauma, and using the natural processes of the brain to move toward adaptive resolution.
