For a broader explanation of what seeing a psychologist costs across Australia, and how Medicare rebates, private health insurance, NDIS and other funding options work, see How Much Does it Cost to See a Psychologist in Australia?
Medicare rebates for these sessions
Clients with a valid GP Mental Health Treatment Plan (often called a Mental Health Care Plan) may be able to access a Medicare rebate for eligible psychology sessions. The current rebate for a consulting psychology session is $101.55. Medicare rebates are processed after the session.
Based on the current session fee of $230 and a rebate of $101.55, the out-of-pocket cost per rebated session is approximately $128. How the rebate works, and how to get a plan from your GP, is set out in the article on psychology sessions with Medicare.
Other ways sessions can be funded
Depending on your circumstances, services may also be accessed through other funding pathways.
These may include:
- Private health insurance, where applicable (see claiming psychology on private health insurance)
- NDIS funding, for participants who self-manage or plan-manage their plan. Veronica isn’t a registered NDIS provider, so she can’t see participants whose plans are NDIA-managed. NDIS sessions are charged in line with the current NDIS pricing schedule, with no gap fee. See psychology for NDIS participants for more detail.
- Workers’ compensation: Veronica is a registered WorkCover Queensland provider and is SIRA-approved to provide psychology services to injured workers in New South Wales. Sessions for accepted claims are billed directly to the insurer.
- Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA): Veronica accepts clients funded through DVA. A referral is required, and eligible sessions are billed directly to DVA with no gap payment. If you hold a DVA health card, you are welcome to get in touch and discuss what is needed to arrange sessions.
- Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) and other approved third-party arrangements
Payment
Payment is required for all appointments, in person and telehealth, before the session begins (except for services funded under NDIS or a third-party arrangement). You’ll receive a secure payment link to complete payment before the session, and you can store your card on file if preferred for easy payment at future appointments.
Services not paid for before the appointment may be cancelled.
Cancellations
Cancellation or rescheduling requires 48 hours’ notice. Cancellations, changes, or no-shows incur a late cancellation fee. This is 50% of the appointment cost for individual clients, or 100% for third-party funding providers.
Supervision
Supervision is offered separately from therapy services and is charged at a different rate. Please get in touch for current supervision fees and availability.
